Howell began her career making accessories and selling them to London shops. After she found a beautifully produced vintage shirt she was inspired to produce her own, and her menswear career began. After cultivating a loyal following Howell opened her first store in 1977 in London. Howell was them amongst the first wave of British designers to find success in Japan in the 80's and 90's. Howell's philosophy has always been 'keep it simple' - to make high quality clothes based on British traditions. Her clothes have a relaxed natural look, and make good use of tactile natural fabrics, which only get better with age...
