For his SS12 Authentic collection, Nigel has taken particular inspiration from the clothing worn by the Desert Rats - British troops stationed in North Africa during WWII, under the command of General Montgomery. Many familiar pieces from previous Authentic collections make a welcome return, updated with new detailing, fabrics and colour combinations inspired by the Desert Rats.
The story behind the Mallory jacket is an incredible one - in 1924 George Mallory went to climb Everest, dressed in a 3-Piece Military Issue Harris Tweed Suit and a pair of sheepskin boots. He never returned - although it is widely believed he reached the summit - and in 1999 his body was found, preserved in ice. In tribute to this great explorer, Nigel has included the Mallory jacket every season since it first appeared in the original 'Ascent' collection. In-keeping with this season's theme, the Mallory has been re-imagined for warmer weather in lightweight linen.
