SOPH. was founded in 1998 by Hirofumi Kiyonaga, with the aim of creating clothing that was minimal, yet functional – perfectly suited for every day wear. Their clothing is designed with city living in mind, transcending current trends and passing fads, instead drawing inspiration from further afield, such as the work of architects and designers Charles and Ray Eames, adding an innovative new dimension to their collections.
After changing their name to SOPHNET. in 2002, the label continued to grow, still continuing to combine art and fashion in their designs. This has lead them to work with a wide range of luminaries, ranging from Nike ACG – where SOPHNET. added a minimal new edge to heritage All Conditions Gear silhouettes – through to prominent contemporary artists such as Julian Opie and Tatsuo Miyajima.
Today, SOPHNET. are one of the most respected names around, continuing to forge a name for themselves as a leading light in contemporary fashion, and this is as prominent as ever in their SS12 collection. Comprising of a wide variety of novel designs that focus on durability, comfort and their own interpretation of quintessential Japanese style, this season features some of the best shirting and legwear we’ve seen of late, as well as durable, every day outerwear, including the truly stand-our Barbour collaboration blouson jacket.
This is a new arrival not to be missed, head over to the SOPHNET. Section now for a closer look.
