S.N.S. Herning – New Arrivals

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

You have to go a long way to find better knitwear than S.N.S. Herning. The Danish label have been hand-crafting the finest sweaters and cardigans Scandinavia has to offer for generations, keeping North Sea fisherman warm, even in the most ferocious conditions. The construction and design is something that should be truly appreciated, each piece is made on the looms that have been used by the Skyt family since the 1930s, using patterns that have truly stood the test of time.

The most recent arrivals here at End include classic pieces such as the Stark Cardigan and Port Sweater, as well as contemporary designs such as the Limbo hoody. No matter what the inspiration behind the design, every S.N.S. Herning knit is robustly constructed and perfect for the colder weather.

SNS Herning – Fine Danish Knits

Friday, August 27th, 2010

S.N.S. Herning are a brand that require no introduction, and while the styling is simple and functional, and the quality unsurpassed, we will avoid the temptation of lazily summarising their knitwear as ‘very Scandinavian’, mostly because there is much more to it than that…

The Skyt family have been producing top quality knitwear in their Herning factory since the 1930s. The incredible construction and design is born from necessity, not aesthetics, and each garment is something that should be truly appreciated. The silhouettes veer away from the norm, not based around trends, rather the shape of each knit is based on the movements and needs of the wearer, so there is room to add extra layers underneath, or move around freely in any situation.

These amazing sweaters, cardigans and knitted jackets are still made on the same looms as they were when Søren Nielsen Skyt began the company in 1931, and 80 years on, each knit is still finished with the same care and attention as they were then.

SNS Herning 2010 Spring Collection

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Probably one of our favorite new additions to the end fold last season was was Denmark’s SNS Herning. No nonsense knits made to the highest standard, in order to survive the worst Scandinavian conditions, that most importantly look great on. So we were very pleased to see S.N.S. Herning’s SS10 collection had arrived when we got back from Christmas, and as we unpacked it we couldn’t help but to be impressed by their take on functional knits for warmer months.

The range features the ‘Under range’, full and half button cardigans that are made to be worn traditionally under jackets and thicker knits, but could quite easily be worn by themselves. The Stem, Lag and Tag knits, are lighter weight versions of the bubble knits that made SNS famous. Their unusual textures set them apart from normal knitwear brands, and the Stem cardigan and jacket also feature the imperfections that come from the original looms.

A great collection of knits, essential in any man’s wardrobe. Head to the SNS Herning section to view the full Spring collection.

SNS Herning Coming Soon

Monday, September 28th, 2009

One of the most celebrated names in Scandinavian clothing, this heritage brand was started in 1931 by Soren Nielsen Skyt in his home town of Herning, in Denmark’s central Jutland region. To this day the company still has it’s mill in the town and S.N.S. Herning is run by the son of the Soren Nielsen Skyt, using the looms, machines and patterns that his father created during more than four decades at the helm.

The company’s success was built on the ingenious design of the bubble knit pattern, which provided fisherman with protection against the elements whilst working on the rough seas. The 1931 ‘Fisherman’ knit pattern is as successful today as ever, and over the years, Skyt assembled a huge range of knits using the bubble pattern as a basis.

This back catalogue forms the main part of each S.N.S. Herning collection. Each season sees a number of archive silhouettes and patterns re-issued to the exact specification of the original, often being made on the same machines as they were when they were first produced. AW09 sees the perennial Fisherman sweater joined by three 1970s designs in the Naval, Robust and Stark knits as well as the addition of the brand new Start cardigan which shows the way in which S.N.S. incorporate heritage design principles into their new pieces.

S.N.S. Herning is a personal favourite of ours, the attention to detail and rich heritage of the brand are something to be admired, and something that sets them apart from most others. We are expecting a great reaction to the arrival of the AW09 collection, and we’re sure that they won’t be about for long.
