One of the most celebrated names in Scandinavian clothing, this heritage brand was started in 1931 by Soren Nielsen Skyt in his home town of Herning, in Denmark’s central Jutland region. To this day the company still has it’s mill in the town and S.N.S. Herning is run by the son of the Soren Nielsen Skyt, using the looms, machines and patterns that his father created during more than four decades at the helm.

The company’s success was built on the ingenious design of the bubble knit pattern, which provided fisherman with protection against the elements whilst working on the rough seas. The 1931 ‘Fisherman’ knit pattern is as successful today as ever, and over the years, Skyt assembled a huge range of knits using the bubble pattern as a basis.
This back catalogue forms the main part of each S.N.S. Herning collection. Each season sees a number of archive silhouettes and patterns re-issued to the exact specification of the original, often being made on the same machines as they were when they were first produced. AW09 sees the perennial Fisherman sweater joined by three 1970s designs in the Naval, Robust and Stark knits as well as the addition of the brand new Start cardigan which shows the way in which S.N.S. incorporate heritage design principles into their new pieces.
S.N.S. Herning is a personal favourite of ours, the attention to detail and rich heritage of the brand are something to be admired, and something that sets them apart from most others. We are expecting a great reaction to the arrival of the AW09 collection, and we’re sure that they won’t be about for long.
