Since starting out in the early 1970s Japanese brand Comme des Garcons has earned itself a reputation as one of fashion’s true pioneers. A brand capable of breaking boundaries and starting – as opposed to following – trends, Comme are one of the most recognised and respected names around for good reason.

Aside from their now world famous guerilla stores, Comme des Garcons have several flagship stores around the world, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong all have stunning concept stores that bear the CDG marque. The UK’s own flagship store is Dover Street Market, on the fringes of London’s Soho district, DSM, as it is often known has recently been voted one of the ‘coolest’ shops in the world, which is no mean feat. The period store is thoroughly modern inside, impeccably decorated and carefully filled with some of the best brands, art and even food conceivable, giving a truly memorable shopping experience.

It was no surprise then when Comme des Garcons most revered flagship store decided to produce their own range of clothing. Working with the designers at Comme the DSM label is a reflection of the store itself, a keen eye for detail, particularly little twists that give a feeling of the out of the ordinary. The range features inverted logos, contrasting checked panels and subtle detailing applied to premium shirts, jeans, jackets and accessories.
Obviously, the collection had to be worthy of being sold in Dover Street Market and it has not disappointed. This debut capsule collection for AW09 is brilliantly put together, and truly befitting of the DSM name.
