The color palette is suitably vibrant for the spring, with the shoes being finished in Popcorn, Navy and Grape.

Adidas Consortium ZX Runners Pack

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

This month our friends at Adidas Consortium have taken it back to basics, re-working three classic runners for the release – Tokio Low – ZXZ and ZX450. Each runner has been re-worked in updated premium materials, and with a colourway twist.

zxnews2

This take on the ZX Winter classic takes its colour cues from one of the most iconic colourways ever rocked on any adidas model, namely the royal blue with infrared 3-Stripes as seen on the Dublin from the initial City Series.

The upper is constructed from a combination of waterproof materials including a butter smooth and textured suede mix as well as elements of premium technical nylon making it the ideal shoe when things are getting wet and wild.
The midsole sports the familiar Dellinger webbing while the Consortium handshake logo can be found on the infrared sockliners and embossed on the tongue. Coming with both a navy and infrared lace flip the latest take ZXz is guaranteed to keep your feet dry and your style on lock.

zxnews1

The Tokio first dropped in 1964 and quickly established itself as one of the most popular running models in the catalogue. The lo-cut version was reintroduced in 1986 to popular acclaim and the two Gore-Tex versions from last season were an unquestionable hit with heads everywhere.

This Consortium version comes correct in a deep collegiate plum that is contrasted with pop yellow 3-Stripes and a fairway green trim while an upper constructed from the softest Italian leather, butter soft suede and classic nylon ensures that the premium feel of the shoe shines through.

Classic Consortium touches include the handshake logo embossed on the tongue and sockliners with further contrast provided with the coloured inner tongue and options for both a green and yellow lace flip.

zxnews3

The ZX 450 has been a popular touch-point in the adidas archive since its initial release in 1986 and it’s also a Consortium favourite having been re-interpreted more than once in the epic AZX project.

Arguably one of the less technical models in the ZX family, this version comes in a Collegiate Red and Satellite Blue colourway that is both complementary and striking.

The upper is constructed from a combination of premium Italian leather and soft nylon mesh that provides support as well as being extremely functional while the midsole of the shoe reflects the colourway of the upper.

Consortium branding is presented in the form of the embossed ‘handshake’ logo on the classic tongue as well as Consortium branded sockliners while a choice of colours for a lace flip keep things versatile.

Adidas Consortium Runner Pack

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

The first drop of Adidas Consortium for 2010 sees the introduction of two series. The first is brand new for SS10 and is based on classic running silhouettes in the colourways that made other Adidas styles so famous. Part one of the Runners pack features an outdoors inspired Torsion Special, with some of the best finishing we have seen in ages, and a hotly anticipated ZX8000, reworked in the OG EQT B-Ball colourway of white, grey and green. Both – as you would expect from Consortium – use the best materials and are packed with neat detail.

The second pack is a continuation from AW09, with the Rod Laver once again reworked by Consortium partners. Representing the US, Undefeated have another go at redesigning the shoe, once again to great effect. Bold and simple the shoe is finished in soft blue suede with leather trim and subtle embossed branding, letting the shoe speak for itself.

The three styles launch on Friday 22nd January…

Adidas Consortium – Your City Part III

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

The Consortium boys (and girl) are back with the third and final installment of the ‘Your City’ pack. The pack sees Consortium partners from around the world re-work the classic Adidas ‘City Series’ shoes. See below for a full rundown of the final drop, including the highly anticipated London.

The pack will launch online and at the Hunting Co. Store on Saturday 12th December. Please call +44(0)191 261 9327 or email info@endclothing.co.uk for more info…

part33

The Dellinger web aided running legend, recognisable for that angular panelling and stealthy shape gets a lethal-looking redux courtesy of Toronto’s Livestock. Confining the blast of red the original carried to a patent leather heel tab and the tongue’s underside, the rest of the upper is a darker, more rugged affair for all-weather wear.

Grey ripstop panelling, down to the toebox, leather and suede 3-Stripes, complemented by a reflective trim, and the replacement of ghilly lacing in favour of grey and blue D-rings for the top three lace holes, makes it look more intimidating than ever. Blue printed lettering highlighting both model and store alternately, grey-on-grey Dellinger webbing on the midsole, black and blue on the outsole and a pick of rounded hiker-style laces, or flats, plus a padded lining for comfort, indicates that the Livestock crew thought this project through to the tiniest detail, taking this runner well off the beaten track.

part32

City Series pieces like the Adidas London have a place in the Brit shoe-psyche, and with such a bare-bones, slender and simple design – unlined red suede with leather 3-Stripes, blank heel and lacestays, there’s a sense that the shoe’s purpose is lost if it gets too fussy or bolstered. Inverting the colours so it’s predominantly black water-resistant fabric and red suede 3-Stripes and heeltab that retains the original slouchy shape.

Paying homage to the Soho area where Crooked Tongues is based, steeped in sleazy history, and tweaked for wet weather use, given the country’s climate, a long raincoat theme down to a check lining seems appropriate. The traditional dimpled tongue is mixed with another local tradition, the British pint, while a semi translucent sole captures those perpetual puddles at street level. Gold lettering and branded lacetips captures more of the best of British that this makeup brings.

part31

Always expect the unexpected from Colette and Consortium – this Paris interpretation is no exception as once again, the Parisian retail experience give a cult design a look that confidently walks the line between simplicity and the avant-garde. Originally incorporating French flag blue, white and red in its early incarnations, for Colette’s redux, a white leather upper and branded tongue are accompanied by three types of dot pattern within the white 3-Stripes – one red, one blue, and one mixing both.

The blue heeltab is accompanied by the recognisable wordless Colette logo on the rear, and more conventional gold lettering reveals both collaborator and shoe name. Red and blue top metal eyelets reinforce the colour picks, while the innocuous looking white mid and outsole conceals the final surprise – a transparent section of hexagons, that reveals a matching pattern beneath. More Gallic flair that rewards close inspection without alienating those adverse to excessive fuss.

part34

Not to be mistaken for the simpler 1964 Tokio that harks back to the early days of adidas, like the Boston Super, this was an update to the shoe’s formula that brought it to the cutting-edge. Dating back to the late ’80s, this was, and still is, one of the brand’s ultimate premium offerings, and in the hands of Tokyo’s VA, present in so many Consortium rollouts, the shoe’s essence is amplified.

Red, white and black was the original palette, and all three are present here, with the addition of yellow on the outsole, ghilly top lacing and tongue branding. Black ripstop makes up the majority of the upper, while premium leather forefoot and heel panels offer extra resilience. A grey padded lining means everyday comfort, and the choice to twin a white midsole with a predominantly white outsole alters the aesthetic of the shoe entirely, allowing a far chunkier feel. A choice of rounded laces match the yellow, red and black, with a plastic fastening system that caps the hardwearing no-nonsense look and feel perfectly.

Adidas Consortium – Your City Collection

Monday, October 5th, 2009

October 17th sees the first drop of Adidas’ latest Consortium range. The hotly anticipated ‘Your City’ collection is based on Adidas’ famous City series, and sees them team up with their Consortium partners across the world to re-creating their City’s shoe. The Consortium partners brief was to give these classic silhouettes their own distinctive twist, while keeping the original palettes and shapes in tact. In having to keep within these boundaries, these collaborations vary brilliantly, and in very novel ways from the originals, incorporating the new with the old.

The lads at Solebox had one of the best starting points of all, the Berlin is one of the most loved City Series shoes, and one that has not been subject to a recent re-release. Keeping with the navy and sky colourway with black accents and the famous gum sole, Solebox choose to reverse the original, having the inner as the outer, and vice versa.

Our Transatlantic cousins, take two of the most famous city runners and give considered and reworking to old favourites. The Boston Super and L.A. Trainer are given the premium treatment by Bodega and UNDFTD respectively, with the end product of both coming through as a well-thought out interpretation of the original.

Undefeated have chosen to make their L.A. Trainer predominantly red, still in the classic suede, while keeping the mesh panels in traditional navy, and the famous plugs in red, white and blue. The Boston Super is a more contemporary affair, with Bodega (who’s aZX  ZX8000 was such a success) – giving an almost ‘hiking’ twist to this classic runner, with two tone laces and perforated side panels.

A newcomer to the Consortium fold are Sole Service, based in Oslo, they had the chance to work with one of the lesser known, but no less respected City shoes. Their design is clean and minimal, and definitely lets the trainer do the talking.

As big City series fans, we are hugely excited about this drop, and the following two, and as you can see from the images below, justice has definitely been done to these famous trainers.
