Wood Wood X Ellesse

Monday, August 30th, 2010

The Ellesse by Wood Wood capsule collection combines the two brands different roots: Ellesse with it’s ties to the sport of tennis, juxtaposed with Wood Wood’s Scandinavian streetstyle heritage and love of the casual culture of Britain during the 1980s. The resulting collection presents an eclectic range of bold, yet distinguished designs in navy, white & grey and red & orange that toy with the iconic label and its inimitable colour contrasts. This collection is highly limited and celebrates both of these great European labels brilliantly.

SNS Herning – Fine Danish Knits

Friday, August 27th, 2010

S.N.S. Herning are a brand that require no introduction, and while the styling is simple and functional, and the quality unsurpassed, we will avoid the temptation of lazily summarising their knitwear as ‘very Scandinavian’, mostly because there is much more to it than that…

snsnews1

The Skyt family have been producing top quality knitwear in their Herning factory since the 1930s. The incredible construction and design is born from necessity, not aesthetics, and each garment is something that should be truly appreciated. The silhouettes veer away from the norm, not based around trends, rather the shape of each knit is based on the movements and needs of the wearer, so there is room to add extra layers underneath, or move around freely in any situation.

These amazing sweaters, cardigans and knitted jackets are still made on the same looms as they were when Søren Nielsen Skyt began the company in 1931, and 80 years on, each knit is still finished with the same care and attention as they were then.

24 Kilates x New Balance 577 – A Closer Look

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

24 Kilates are fast becoming experts of the collaboration, from Asics to Reebok, the Pamplona based sneaker store have been one of the leading lights in European trainer culture for a number of years and their colabs alway celebrate the best – and often lesser known – silhouettes around. For AW10 they have reworked classic runners, choosing styles that are often pushed out of the limelight by the likes of the Air Max and ZX series, in this case New Balance’s 577.

Kilates_5

This is one of New Balance’s most revered styles, still made in England to the same, super-high Flimby standards, complete with ENCAP cushioned sole, and premium suede and leather uppers. The 24 Kilates guys have chosen to let this classic silhouette do most of the talking, keeping the colourways simple, bold and tasteful. The colour accents chosen reflect Barcelona’s hugely successful football team, and their famous red and blue striped kit, and the flashes of a single colour across these otherwise monochrome designs only serve to accentuate the timeless lines of the 577.

Kilates_6

As you can see from these preview shots, the finish and detail is unbelievable, and numbers for this release are highly limited. We have already had a HUGE amount of interest, and with the 24 Kilates x New Balance 577 launching at 1 minute past midnight on Saturday, we’d advise getting in there early to avoid disappointment!

Norse Projects Autumn Collection

Friday, August 20th, 2010

We have just received our first shipment from Mikkel and the guys over at Norse Projects. As always, the collection has a very clean, Scandinavian feel, with the usual Nordic influences and references. Classic styles such as the oxford shirts, stripe tees and borderlines have made a comeback, while the waxed parka and knitted cardigan are welcome additions. The graphic tees for the season have a definite Nordic feel, and the beanies are made for the harsh Danish winters.

The guys have also teamed up with British bag maker Ally Capellino, who has produced a fantastic rucksack for the collection. The bag comes in both Navy and Black, and is finished in British waxed cotton and bridal leather.

Moncler – Coming Soon

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Provenance. History. Heritage. There are very few brands that we would class as true heritage brands. Brands that have remained true to their DNA, their vision, and their ethos. Brands that manufacture products that never go out of style, products that span the decades. Brands such as Rolex, Makintosh, Ferrari – and Moncler.

Moncler is a brand with true history, who’s name is synonymous with excellence. The name is in fact an abbreviation of Monestier de Clermont, a mountain village where in 1952 Rene Ramillon, a manufacturer of mountain goods, set up the company and gave life to the down jacket. Initially developed from sleeping bags, in 1954 the new jackets were widely in use by workers in small mountain factories to shelter them from the cold.

mon14

The highly regarded French climber Lional Terray upon returning from an expedition to Canada noticed these new down jackets, and commissioned Rene to produce snowsuits, gloves and sleeping bags to provide high resistance to extreme cold. Each garment was produced to the highest specification using both men’s knowledge and expertise. Moncler’s jackets became the explorer’s jacket of choice, being used on  countless climbs and expeditions.

Over the decades the down jacket developed as it’s use changed from the mountain to the city, from sports to moments in everyday life. The jackets were noticeably slimmed down, but the emphasis of the garment remained on quality and warmth, with only French Goose feathers used for the down. Moncler’s now legendary array of colours were added in the 80′s, when young, adventurous city slickers headed to the slopes. Over the decades Moncler has developed into a global premium brand, with a range of products which spans the seasons, and who’s name is synonymous with quality and provenance.

Coming soon to End…

Oliver Spencer Autumn Collection

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

After years of working as a designer and self-taught tailor Oliver Spencer launched his own brand in 2002. He wanted his collection to mirror his own wardrobe, a cross between modern-casual and traditional tailoring. The DNA of each collection is always high quality fabrics, old-school construction and exquisite craftsmanship. Oli puts passion into every garment, striving for quality, sourcing the best fabrics, and ensuring it is all up to his high standards.

Oli draws inspiration from hunting and the military. He adapts bits of Americana and ideas from Japan into aesthetic, which remains obviously English. This is a point that Oli is proud of, with more than half of the range being produced here in the UK.

This season’s collection is one of Oli’s strongest yet, with some of the best knits, shirting and jacketing we have seen from any brand. Shirting has always been a strong area for Oliver, and this season is no different, with a great offer of oxfords, stripes and checks. The jackets also benefit from Oli’s strong tailoring background, with each one styled and cut to perfection. The Travel Jacket is a particular highlight from this season’s range. The knits finish of this autumn collection perfectly, with a range crew neck knits and beanie hats.

There is a collection preview below, and head to the Oliver Spencer Section to view the full collection.
