SNS Herning Coming Soon

Monday, September 28th, 2009

One of the most celebrated names in Scandinavian clothing, this heritage brand was started in 1931 by Soren Nielsen Skyt in his home town of Herning, in Denmark’s central Jutland region. To this day the company still has it’s mill in the town and S.N.S. Herning is run by the son of the Soren Nielsen Skyt, using the looms, machines and patterns that his father created during more than four decades at the helm.

The company’s success was built on the ingenious design of the bubble knit pattern, which provided fisherman with protection against the elements whilst working on the rough seas. The 1931 ‘Fisherman’ knit pattern is as successful today as ever, and over the years, Skyt assembled a huge range of knits using the bubble pattern as a basis.

This back catalogue forms the main part of each S.N.S. Herning collection. Each season sees a number of archive silhouettes and patterns re-issued to the exact specification of the original, often being made on the same machines as they were when they were first produced. AW09 sees the perennial Fisherman sweater joined by three 1970s designs in the Naval, Robust and Stark knits as well as the addition of the brand new Start cardigan which shows the way in which S.N.S. incorporate heritage design principles into their new pieces.

S.N.S. Herning is a personal favourite of ours, the attention to detail and rich heritage of the brand are something to be admired, and something that sets them apart from most others. We are expecting a great reaction to the arrival of the AW09 collection, and we’re sure that they won’t be about for long.

Stussy Deluxe x Maiden Noir

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The brainchild of well travelled South African Nick Bower, Stussy Deluxe is as the name suggests an extension of the Stussy brand, and one that focuses on classic heritage design, adding a subtle essence of the Stussy ethos to it. Bower admits to drawing influence from a wide array of designers. APC, Commes Des Garcons, Brooks Brothers and Visvim to name but a few have shaped this fledgling range.

The idea is simple; to take what is a ‘classic’ in terms of design and make it recognisable as being a Stussy product, whilst still keeping the elements that made it so great. The range features carefully selected colabs including one with Dr. Martens - where Stussy Deluxe reworked a classic Desert Boot silhouette to give it a more street wear feel – and another with Seattleites Maiden Noir, a brand notorious for producing the highest quality jeans.

Also in the collection is Stussy Deluxe’s incredible representation of classic American shirting, the Newbridge plaid shirt is one of the finest examples of it’s kind that we have seen of late. Made from heavyweight premium cotton and cut in a considered and modern way, it is in some ways a huge step away from the graphically led styles of Stussy mainline, with any branding being almost hidden away.

Nike x Nitro Microphone Underground

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Perhaps not the first name to pop into the head of your average UK Hip-Hop fan, Nitro Microphone Underground have been THE name in hip-hop in their native Japan since the late 1990s. 10 years on from first appearing on the underground club scene, the group have become so popular that Nike have released a highly limited Air Force I shoe to mark a massively successful decade in the industry.

The shoe itself is a truly fitting tribute to Nitro Microphone Underground’s career, a Supreme release made from lux leather, mixing the famous ‘elephant’ cracked effect with metallic gold panelling on the sides and toe box. Each pair comes with gold lace tips and an exclusive logo tag, featuring a print of the Air Force I sole stars.

All-in-all the premium finish and lavish attention to detail have lead to a huge buzz and an almost instant sell-out in Japan, with fans of the band and sneaker collectors alike clambering to get their hands on this Tier 0 release. So be quick in ordering, as demand is bound to be high, and while you’re waiting for your pair to come, why not check out the bands music here.

Velour Autumn Collection

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

They may be one of the smallest independent brands that we stock at End, but Gothenburg’s finest, Velour have consistently been making big waves over the past few seasons. Velour’s designs are always thoughtful in their execution, their shirting is always well cut, and the patterns are bold without being too loud. This season sees checked shirts in slightly washed tones of brown, yellow or blue, to give a fantastic vintage look. The collection also features a more vibrant blue and red check that runs through the Louis shirt and Quincy scarf. Each of these styles is produced from premium cotton with minimal branding.

As Scandinavians, Velour have a better insight than most into what makes for knitwear perfection, and the Egil knitted roll-neck is one of the best examples we have seen in some time. Knitted in tonal greys with a fantastic Nordic-inspired pattern, the Egil has a double length neck for extra protection from the elements as well as giving a fantastically individual look and fit.

Once again our swedish friends have come up trumps with their collection, and if the staff reaction is anything to go by it won’t be about for long.

Opening Ceremony

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Sitting in the heart of downtown Manhattan is Opening Ceremony – Not just a store, and not just a design house. Opening Ceremony is more a hub for like-minded global artists and designers, where they can display and sell their work, be it their art or fashion. Despite the colossal eclecticism that can be found at Opening Ceremony there is definitely a common thread that runs through everything within its walls; only the most innovative and maverick find themselves on show.

It is no surprise then that the clothing line that Opening Ceremony have created is something that is quite brilliant and markedly different to the majority of contemporary collections. A fitting representation of their ethos of innovation and variation, with impetus often placed on collaborations, joint projects with designers, artists and brands that many other people would choose to overlook.

Opening Ceremony’s stand-alone collection similarly balances progression with a real awareness of history and heritage. Classic shirting mixes with shawl collar cardigans and anoraks, the finish is as good as anything we have ever seen, with each piece given a brilliantly distinct and individual twist of it’s own.

Since first opening their doors in 2002 Opening Ceremony have caused quite a stir and we hope this collection, and their forthcoming collaboration with Pendleton will do the same here at End.

Some of our favorite styles from the new collection are pictured below, and please head to the Opening Ceremony section to view the full range.

Play Cloths Online Now

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Having listened to Pusha T and Malice (Clipse) rapping about their favourite clothes on their records it came as no surprise to learn that they were branching out into fashion themselves. Rappers diversifying into clothing is a far from new concept, and although these ranges are successful they are not always as good as the artists’ musical output. With Clipse however, you always thought they would do something a bit better than the norm. Having name-dropped brands from A Bathing Ape and Nike to APC and Cavalli, Play Cloths was always set to be great.

As long time musical cohorts, and friends of Pharell Williams there is a definite similarity to Billionaire Boys Club, the brand is motif driven and has a number of references to preppy culture. But far from being an imitator Playcloths definitely stands on it’s own. The range is based on the concept of the clothes were worn specifically for school and play as children, transposed onto any ‘playground’ in day to day life.

Aside from clothing featuring the ‘exclamation‘ logo and the brand‘s famous ‘Jack’ character, Play Cloths have produced some great denim, cardigans, shirts and jackets, each with their own very distinct slant and premium finish.

As we said, this is anything but another hip-hop artist’s brand but a fashion label that can, and does stand up on it’s own merits, despite the fame of it’s creators. So as Clipse would say…Put your Play Cloths on…

Named ‘Crow’ and ‘Peacock’ these avian influenced designs showcase the shoe through the use of premium materials and novel finshing such as furs and patterned materials. The peacock has colour fade panels at the back and block grey at the front to represent the peacock’s tail. The crow is an understated affair, but no less effective, black on black with contrast materials on the panels to highlight the shoe’s brilliant lines.
