Pendleton Woolen Mills

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The Pendleton woolen mills are 100 years old this year, and have one of the richest and most interesting histories of any American brand. Starting out in 1909 with jacquard Indian trading blankets, the company have gone from strength to strength, producing some of the most iconic blankets, knits and shirts of their kind.

The Heritage collection sees famous archive patterns such as the ‘Spirit of the Peoples’ and ‘Harding’ recreated in knitted sweaters and scarves as well as the blankets that originally made them so famous. The woolen shirts which have made Pendleton one of the most recognised names in modern American culture come in a variety of fantastic patterns.
Blackwatch tartan, officially commissioned by the regiment, adorns shirts, blankets and holdalls which are all made from premium American virgin wool. The quality and detailing on all Pendleton products is second to none, and from the striking heritage patterns to the expert level of finishing, it is instantly apparent why the brand are such an integral name in American culture.

As you can tell we are ecstatic at being chosen to be one of the select few UK stockists of this incredible brand, and we hope from this small initial collection you can see why. Pendleton have been a firm favourite of ours for a while now, and we hope that soon more people will now be able to appreciate this iconic American label.

Dover Street Market x Comme des Garçons

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Since starting out in the early 1970s Japanese brand Comme des Garcons has earned itself a reputation as one of fashion’s true pioneers. A brand capable of breaking boundaries and starting – as opposed to following – trends, Comme are one of the most recognised and respected names around for good reason.

DSM x Comme des Garcons

Aside from their now world famous guerilla stores, Comme des Garcons have several flagship stores around the world, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong all have stunning concept stores that bear the CDG marque. The UK’s own flagship store is Dover Street Market, on the fringes of London’s Soho district, DSM, as it is often known has recently been voted one of the ‘coolest’ shops in the world, which is no mean feat. The period store is thoroughly modern inside, impeccably decorated and carefully filled with some of the best brands, art and even food conceivable, giving a truly memorable shopping experience.

DSM x Comme des Garcons

It was no surprise then when Comme des Garcons most revered flagship store decided to produce their own range of clothing. Working with the designers at Comme the DSM label is a reflection of the store itself, a keen eye for detail, particularly little twists that give a feeling of the out of the ordinary. The range features inverted logos, contrasting checked panels and subtle detailing applied to premium shirts, jeans, jackets and accessories.
Obviously, the collection had to be worthy of being sold in Dover Street Market and it has not disappointed. This debut capsule collection for AW09 is brilliantly put together, and truly befitting of the DSM name.

Sperry Waxed Chukka Boots

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

The Sperry waxed chukkas have finally docked with us here at End. Although these beauties would probably sit more comfortably in the forest than on the high seas, we still think they are fantastic. A great winter version of the classic Sperry Topsider, the chukka boots are mid-cut, and are finished in waxed suede – perfect for the Autumn.

Head to the Sperry section to check out the details…

Puma Suede Collection

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Back in the 1970s, the basketball industry was very different; basketball shoes were still designed to maximise performance and safety, but the marketing was far more understated. Despite this lack of promotion, no range of Basketball shoes – aside from Nike’s Jordan 1 and the Adidas Superstar – has enjoyed anything like the across the board success of the Puma’s 70s court shoe, the Suede.

suedenavyred

Even before the shoe was endorsed by leading light of the day Walt ‘ Clyde’ Frazier it was THE shoe of choice in the NBA, and for good reason; it was durable and comfortable, and with it’s contrast Form Stripe, Puma were able to produce colours for each NBA team. This quality, and the spectrum of colours available meant it wasn’t long until the B-Boys of the day adopted the Suede as their own, and in clubs and breaking competitions worldwide, Suedes could be seen everywhere in a plethora of colours.

This August sees Puma begin to re-release these original Puma Suede colourways, three per month until the end of the year. Everything that made the original such a success is still there to see, the stubby toe box, fat laces, contrast form stripe and high quality soft suede uppers, as well as a price that anyone can afford. A true shoe of the people, and one that transcended styles, generations and genres, and still holds a place in many hearts.

Timex Jumbo Collection

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

The Timex name first appeared in US shops in the 1950s, as an affordable but well made watch, manufactured by U.S. Time. The Timex was marketed on its ‘indestructibility’ and adverts at the time featured the watch enduring a number of torture tests demonstrating its resilience. These included the watch being fastened to a variety of different items, including a boats propeller, a baseball star’s bat and even a lobster’s claw!

These adverts – fronted by leading newsreader of the time John Cameron Swayze – ran until the 1970s, where Timex sales had reached 500 million, counting for one in every two watches sold in the United States at the time!

The 1980s saw a revolution in the world of mainstream watches, low-price digital watches from the Far East flooded the market, and while many US brands attempted to react to this influx, it was only Timex who survived, and ultimately flourished. Their digital watch relied on years and years of experience mass producing low-cost, reliable watches, and their simple design soon established itself as a modern classic.

The ethos of the Timex80 brand is to celebrate that classic digital style, reproducing watches the original shape and including some of the patented advances Timex added over the years, such as the Indiglo back-light. Each watch comes in a display box in the shape of one of the LCD cyphers that make up digital numbers, and aside from the original black rubber colourway the Timex80 collection comes in a wide palette of vibrant colours.

This season sees a brand new model released from the Timex 80 fold. The Jumbo series are an over-sized version of the original, complete with all the details and functions that made it so successful. The Jumbo has already garnered a great detail of interest, and this brilliant take on the Timex digital watch deserves the plaudits.

A.P.C Autumn 2009 Collection

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

The workshop of creation and production, as the name literally translates have, over the past few seasons established themselves as firm End favourites. A.P.C is always instantly recognisable, testament not to overt branding but to bold, unfussy design and considered styling that has on many occasions influenced trends as opposed to following them.

The latest season’s range sees these aesthetic principles continuing through into some brilliant pieces. From classically styled trench coats and bomber Jackets to some quintessentially A.P.C styled knitwear and windbreakers. As with most previous seasons, shirting is exceptional, this time using tartan inspired patterns on their hugely popular long-sleeve oxford shirt.

It was never likely that an A.P.C collection would disappoint and that point has been emphatically proven in this first AW09 delivery, with more of the same to follow this looks set to be another great season for our favourite French brand.

We have showcased some of our favourite styles below (if you could even pick a favourite!), or head to the A.P.C section to view the full range. Au Revouir for now…

Band of Outsiders for Sperry Top-Sider

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Band of Outsiders originates from the USA, Los Angels to be precise, and is headed up by designer and friend to the stars Scott Sternberg. The brand has been getting alot of media attention over the last few years, with their famous ties and shirts appearing in most editions of GQ, Esquire and the like. The brand is a bit of a darling amongst the American Celebrities, with starts such as Kanye and Mark Ronson being big fans of Brand of Outsiders.

After a little field expedition to America last year we got chance to meet with the Band of Outsiders guys, and sort out a few styles for the coming autumn season. The first styles have just arrived with us back in Blightly, and are looking great.

As if they weren’t getting enough press, last year Band of Outsiders started working with boat shoe originators Sperry, and produced a premium shoe range. They totally re-worked the topsider, using premium materials and innovative construction. The partnership has continued this year, and Band of Outsiders have decided to develop their own Boat chukka style to add to the range. The chukka is perfect for the upcoming British Autumn, as if offers a little more protection from the elements than the trusty Top-Sider.

In typical Band of Outsiders fashion the shoes use a wide range of materials, from crashed and crushed leathers, to premium suede, and even a heavyweight flannel. All of the shoes carry the Band of outsiders sign off on the leather insoles, and have the trademark ‘reverse tongue’.

There is a brief overview of the styles below, or head to the main section to view the full range. We have styles from the apparel range currently flying over from LA – we will keep you updated on release dates.

Check out the Band of Outsiders blog for a bit of celeb spotting…

Nom de Guerre Autumn ’09

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Each Nom De Guerre season is always greatly anticipated, each collection seems to move on from the last, the sharp t-shirt graphics, stunning knits and strong, simple shirting continues to get better and better each season. Autumn ’09 continues in this vein, and the military influence that underpins everything that Nom produce is instantly apparent. This season draws influence from the Russian Revolution, the heavy knits, large jackets and thick shirts necessary to help brave the harsh Russian weather are prominent.

Working under the title of ‘The Third Generation’ AW09 has a number of truly outstanding pieces. The Deconstructed shirt that has been a key piece in many previous seasons is finished shirt in a narrow cord with a plaid pattern, giving a great effect. This season’s tees feature deconstructed images of flags with political slogans written around them, and in keeping with the Russian Revolutionary theme there are heavy knit shawl cardigans and ‘standard issue’ hats. These knits would probably withstand a Baltic winter, but with the brilliant Nom de Guerre design they are just as at home here.

As the amount of coverage on Nom de Guerre continues to grow so does the brand’s popularity and the demand for these highly limited pieces. We have received our first delivery which contains many of the seasons key styles including the Great Coat and Deconstructed shirts. Head to the Nom de Guerre section to view the range…
