Luminox Watches

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

We’d never argue with a Navy Seal, and so when offered the chance to stock Luminox watches, endorsed by the US Military’s elite force, we jumped at the chance. Luminox make ultra-durable watches for the most extreme of environments, be it underwater, in flight or in a war zone. Their watches are made to the highest spec tough materials, with reinforced casings and faces. However, what makes a Luminox watch stand out from the rest is the glow from the dial and hands – groundbreaking, patented technology gives illumination that is 100 times brighter than any other watch so you can tell the time no matter how dark it is. As opposed to other watch illumination systems, these micro gas lights are entirely self-powered, need no charge or any buttons to trigger them. Each watch is painstakingly fitted with this unique Swiss-designed system, so quality can be ensured, which is just as well with pilots, National Guards and soldiers choosing Luminox watches for over a decade.

Now, all this technology and gadgetry may appeal to our inner geek, but Luminox watches do actually look great as well, which is always a bonus. The robust shape and simple, military-style layout of the face and dials looks great, sitting somewhere between U-Boat and a Submariner but with a distinctive twist that comes from the precise, bespoke finishing process. The Original Navy Seal diving watch stays true to its time-honoured design, while the Colourmark series with variation in face colour and straps giving some depth to the collection.

We have limited numbers, so head to the Luminox section to take a look…

Nike Vintage Collection

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Nike’s Vintage collections are always something to look forward to, especially when some of our all time favorites are given the vintage treatment. The care and attention that goes into the reproduction of these classic styles never fails to please, lovingly recreating these iconic shoes from models in Nike’s Beaverton archives. Even the imperfections are included, distressed and faded patches on the uppers and the inescapable yellowing to the sole and laces.

Fred Perry 100th Anniversary Collection

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Had Frederick John Perry had his way the success story of the Fred Perry brand could have taken a very, very different course. After huge on-court success, winning 3 Wimbledon titles, 3 US Open crowns and triumphing at both the French and Australian Championships, Fred teamed up with Austrian footballer Tibby Wegner to create the world’s first sweatband for professional sportsman. This was an unmitigated success and the two were then posed with the problem of branding, astute enough to realise that an iconic logo was key to launching the brand the two set about brainstorming ideas. However, had Fred Perry had his way, it would have been his beloved pipe that adorned the chests of polos, jackets and shirts worldwide to this day! Fortunately, after being talked down by Wegner, the pair decided on the laurel wreath Fred had worn on his Davis Cup blazer, and after being given permission to do so by the LTA, the laurel was to be used as the new symbol of the Fred Perry brand.

Nike Flywire & Grid Pack TZ

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

The Air Max 90 is one of the most important running shoes of the past 20 years or so, eclipsing many who had come before and the majority that followed. The 90 used cutting edge technology with a clean, simple silhouette and instantly became a classic. It seems fitting then that Nike’s latest NSW Quickstrike (or is it Tier 0?) drop is focussed on this seminal runner, mixing it with a great finish and some of Nike’s most recent innovations.

Raf Simons for Eastpak

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Last season’s collection between these two very different fashion heavyweights was very much a case of blink and you’ll miss it. Quintessentially Raf Simons, without forgetting all that has made Eastpak the most successful brand in their field, AW08 was defined by some simple but unique design and great use of materials. The new Spring collection is no different. We have received 3 styles of bag from the collection – each takes an Eastpak silhouette and gives it a Raf Simons twist. Using the most premium of materials and processes, adapting the designs and making them more focused towards the fashion market. In doing so this collaboration has created some fantastic and varied bags that are sure to be a similarly massive success.

Levi x Damien Hirst

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

The collaboration born from mutual respect, between US denim giants Levi’s and one of Britain’s most famous artists, has been hotly anticipated for some time. Being a huge Levi’s fan, by his own admission, it was this love of the brand that lead to Damien Hirst originally being approached to take part in this amazing project. The inspiration behind the collection was to create ‘art you can wear’, blurring the lines between fashion and art until there is ultimately no distinction, and to make these creations available to anyone. This highly limited collaborative collection has more than succeeded in doing this.

Hirst has always been fascinated by the seemingly macabre, with skulls in particular always playing a huge part in his work.  However, he is always keen to juxtapose this with themes of colour, life and birth. This SS09 release is split in two – a concept none-too-foreign to Mr Hirst, and follows this theme of oxymoron, one part named Butterfly, the other Skull. The two sections not completely distinct, rather they interweave one another, with skulls adorning most pieces as well as brightly coloured flourishes on the majority of pieces in both sections.

A tie die inspired motif runs throughout the collection, the ‘Skull’ section sees tees with tie die skulls, a full skull print hoody. ‘Butterfly’ tees come in white and lemon and feature ‘Levi’s’ written vertically through a psychedelically coloured circle, giving the effect of a butterfly.

The denim chosen is a washed black and washed blue that complements the more brightly coloured tops. For ‘Skulls’ the jean bears the arcurate on one pocket and a tonal embroidered skull on the other, on ‘Butterfly’ the skulls are on both pockets in contrast washed denim. Each jean has brightly coloured pocket lining and patch as well as having embossed skulls and ‘Hirst’ logos on the buttons.

Having been championed by people such as Ian Brown and Frank Music, and due to the highly limited nature of the release this collection is not going to be around for long, so get yourself a bit of fashion/art history before it sells out!

Barbour – North East Heritage

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

The Barbour family have been making the highest quality outerwear here in the North East since Victorian times, but the illustrious history of John Barbour’s family spans back far further. Of proud Scottish ancestry the Barbour clan have carried their crest since the 1600s, and now 400 years on we see this coat of arms on their world famous clothing.

The first pieces we have received that carry the family crest are classic polo shirts. Made from heavyweight pique cotton, in weathered Black and Blue colours these fantastic polos feature a large embroidered crest on chest, as well as some other great details such as shoulder plackets and embroidered inner branding. Perfect for the summer we’re sure a lot of people will be wearing the Barbour family arms with pride.

Keeping to the theme of warmer weather wear, Barbour continue their hugely successful foray into the more fashion-focused side of things with the Duralinen Flyer Jacket. High quality waxed flying jackets are far from a new concept for Barbour, however this version is made from lighter, single-lined Lined, which is still sturdy and robust, but not as heavy as a full weight waxed cotton jacket. All the detailing we expect remains, epaullettes, branded Barbour buttons, elasticated waist and cuffs as well as a fantastic overall finish. This slimmer cut jacket is already a hit instore, and is something brilliantly different for the warmer months!
